David Villa has reveal why he left Barcelona due to his need for more starting appearances, but the striker remembers his time at the Camp Nou with great affection.
The Spain international left to Atletico Madrid in 2013 after three seasons at the FC Barcelona, which included two Liga titles and a Champions League winners medal.
And he said losing a first-team place in the Catalans prompted his decision to seek new club
"I just decided to quit because I had lost my starting place" he told New York Sport.
"I do always tried to be realistic about where I am, where I to go, I lost my place and I was not playing as much for technical reasons.
"The best path would have been staying at Barcelona, to keep winning trophies, prestige and honour but I wanted to be on the pitch. I looked for a way out.
While the media on the other hand turned it into something else, while it was just simple: I want to always be on pitch not on bench,
The broken leg I had during my second season at Barca also held me back,he says, and admitted that was the worst moment of his career.
