Former Norwich striker Dieumerci Mbokani has spoken of his regret at turning down Liverpool - believing a move to Anfield could have propelled
him alongside some of Africa's best-ever strikers.
The Congolese international, now 32 and at Belgian side Royal Antwerp, spent two years in the Premier League with both the Canaries and Hull City.
Mbokani even scored against the Reds in their thrilling 5-4 victory at Carrow Road in January 2016, but has now lifted the lid on how he could have been running out FOR Liverpool.
In 2010, Roy Hodgson eyed a move for the player, then at Standard Liege.
But Mbokani opted for Monaco, and has now lamented his decision.
When I played at Standard, I had the choice between Monaco and Liverpool,” Mbokani reportedly told Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad.
"If I had gone to Liverpool I might have had a career as (Samuel) Eto’o or (Didier) Drogba.
"Because I felt that with my qualities I must not be inferior to those two.”
Mbokani would score just one goal in 10 appearances for the French club before embarking on a nomadic career, starting with Wolfsburg, Anderlecht and Dynamo Kiev.
